Elsie J. Smith

Elsie Jean Smith, 85, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2016. She was born on August 19, 1930, grew up in Birmingham, AL, and then resided in Uniontown, OH for 39 years. Elsie worked many years for Goodyear Tire in the tax department and was president of Goodyear's Blue and Gold Club for retirees. She was an active member of Community Baptist Temple in Lakemore. Elsie was known for her generous spirit and for hosting tea parties for her friends.

Elsie was preceded in death by the love of her life, Dick; parents, James and Blanche Roberson; brother, Howard Roberson. She is survived by daughter, Sandy (Gary) Lewis; grandchildren, Jill (Jonathan) Schnee, Maren (Gary) Schween; great-grandchildren, Dade, Alexis, Taylor, Natalie, Elizabeth, Knox; many other family and friends.

Family will receive guests on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 3-5 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. A celebration of life will take place on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11 am at Community Baptist Temple, 1370 Canton Rd, Akron. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Haven of Rest Ministries, PO Box 547, Akron, Ohio 44309-0547. Interment will take place at Uniontown Cemetery at a later date.
