Edwina Dawn Baker, of Akron, Ohio, passed away on September 14, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on February 20, 1949, she lived a life marked by devotion to family, steadfast faith, and a spirit that was both candid and deeply loving.
Edwina graduated from Central High School in 1967 and went on to build a long and faithful career, retiring from Parker Hannifin as an Office Manager after more than 30 years of service. Her dedication and constancy were hallmarks not only of her work, but of the way she moved through life.
A fiercely religious woman, Edwina always spoke her mind, and those who knew her understood both the strength of her convictions and the sincerity of her heart. She found joy in simple and meaningful pleasures. She loved being in the sun and especially enjoyed sun tanning. She also loved traveling to Arizona to visit her sister and family there, treasuring that time together. In her free time, she enjoyed creating rock sculptures, practicing yoga and exercise, and surrounding herself with the companionship of her beloved pets.
Edwina loved her dog, Angel, and many cats dearly. Her affection for animals reflected the tenderness she carried so naturally. That same tenderness was felt throughout her family, especially by her nieces and nephews. She delighted in taking them on walks, teaching them about Jesus, and caring for them with such constancy and love that she became like a second mother to them. She was known for the love she held for her entire family, and most especially for her brothers and sisters, who continuously stood by her through the years.
She is survived by her sisters, Esta Finley and Trudy Powe, and by her brother, Roger Barker and his wife, Janet. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, whose lives were shaped by her guidance, her faith, and her enduring love. May they carry forward the warmth of her care, the strength of her example, and the memories of time shared in laughter, conversation, and quiet devotion.
Edwina was preceded in death by her mother, Claudine Barker; her father, Charles Barker; her husband of 34 years, John Baker, who died in 2019; and her brother, Jim Barker.
Edwina Dawn Baker will be remembered for her outspoken nature, her abiding faith, her loyalty to those she loved, and the generous way she gave of herself to family. Her life leaves a lasting imprint on all who were blessed to know her.
