Edward L. Walent

Edward L. Walent, 84, of Huron, peacefully passed away on May 11, 2026. He was born on March 13, 1942, to Paul and Valeria Walent. Being born into a family of strong faith, he was a member of the Assembly of God Church and continued his faith throughout his life. Edward, a 1960 graduate of Akron East High School, spent the early half of his life in the Akron and Uniontown area. His love of boating and fishing eventually led him to the shores of Lake Erie where he and his wife of over 20 years Delores called Huron their home.

Edward and Delores spent many days fishing and cruising Lake Erie on one of his favorite boats he named “Czech-Mate”, to honor his Czechoslovakian heritage. When not on the lake he enjoyed going to car shows and searching out the best-looking Hot Rods he could find.

Edward proudly owned and operated ELW Enterprises and formed strong and lasting relationships with his customers throughout the country. He never lost his sense of humor and enjoyed striking up conversations wherever he went. One thing that he would always say is that “people do not smile enough.” He prided himself on being able to make people laugh and truly had a love for people.

Preceded in death by his parents, Edward is survived by his loving wife, Delores; sister Valeria (Ron); sister-in-law Marcene; nieces and nephews, Chris (Denise), Kelly (Geoff), Patrick (Melissa), and Tiffany (Jack); great-nieces Jamee and Alexis; and great-nephews Zaccary (Natalie), Gunther, and Dominic.

The family would like to recognize the consistent and compassionate care of the doctors, nurses and staff of the Sandusky Cancer Center, Stein and Reserve Care Hospice.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 19th from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N. Canton Rd., Akron) where a service will be held at 1:00pm with Pastor Stephen Neumeyer officiating.

Interment will be held at Hillside Memorial Park.
