Edward Lee English, "Ed", age 81 of Uniontown, died on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Akron General Hospital.
He was born on March 26, 1936 in Akron, the son of the late Kenneth and Selena Wisner English.
Ed was a 1954 graduate of Central High School. He was an insurance agent with State Farm Insurance Co. for close to 40 years, retiring in 2002. Ed was an avid bowler, he enjoyed fishing, gambling-he loved going to Mountaineer, traveling-especially with his late wife, Mary Rita. Many of you that have had the pleasure of knowing Ed, know he had a heart of gold, great sense of humor, and was one of the most likeable gentlemen that you could ever meet. He had a great passion for food and loved spending Wednesday dinners with his family. Ed was a true family leader for many people.
Survivors include his children, Ed "Eddie" (Dorothy) English, Shelly (Leon) McCombs, and Lori (Michael) Woodford; his grandchildren, Kristin (Sean) Moore, Tina (Jason) Holmes, Holly (Walter) Bacon, Stephanie (Jason) Buckler, Heather (Brandon Wilson) English, Jason (Ashley) Harris, Jamee (Lindy) Hendrickson, Haley (David) Schaub, Hannah Tavallali, Caitlin McCombs, Colleen McCombs, McKenzie Hohlbaugh, Megan Hohlbaugh, Michaela Woodford, and Ellie Woodford; and 15 great-grandchildren. One sister also survives, Janice (Raymond) Salmons.
Other than his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Rita Haley on July 13, 2012, they were united in marriage on May 11, 1957; and one brother, Walter English.
Memorial services will take place on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 6:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, where family and friends may visit from 4:00 PM until the time of the service.
