Edmund Carl Rottmayer, age 82, of Akron went home to his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 19, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born on January 2, 1944 in Akron to the late Francis and Virginia {Claus} Rottmayer, Ed lived most of his life in the Medina area.
Ed graduated from Highland High School and the University of Akron with his Bachelor's in Engineering. Ed began his career with the City of Akron in their engineering department, and later joined his father Francis at the family business, Rottmayer Construction.
In his free time, Ed loved to be outdoors, camping and taking hiking trips with his boys Chris and Mike, and his nephew Joe. Ed was a talented landscaper, and created a Japanese garden in the backyard of his home he shared with Mary.
The only place Ed loved to be more than the great outdoors was with his family. His memory will always be fondly cherished by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary; their boys, Chris and Mike (Kate) Rottmayer; grandsons Ben and Andrew Rottmayer; sister Sue Suthers; brother Jim Rottmayer; sister-in-law Helen (Joe) Prekop; nieces and nephews Aimee Suthers, Liz and Alex Rottmayer, Tammy (Jason) Kohut, Joe (Abby) Prekop and their families.
In addition to his parents Francis and Virginia Rottmayer, Ed was preceded in death by his beloved Yorkie Molly and his brother-in-law Bob Suthers.
Family and friends are invited to visit at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2580 Berne St. Akron, OH 44312 on Friday, January 30th from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. a Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Michael Williamson officiating. A private family committal will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, where Ed will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed's memory are suggested to Traditions Hospice, 577 Grant Street, Suite B, Akron, OH 44311.
