Eddie T. Dowdell, born on December 13, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, and a cherished son, brother, and friend, left this world on September 1, 2025, at the age of 64. He was a beacon of joy and laughter, having found Jesus at an early age, which grounded him and influenced the kindness he showed to everyone around him.
Eddie grew up in Cleveland, where he attended Cleveland Public Schools. His love for sports was evident; he was an active participant in football and basketball, always embracing the spirit of competition and teamwork. It was said that he had a natural ability to uplift spirits, turning any fair weather into bright sunshine simply by being himself. Eddie radiated a happiness that was infectious to all who knew him.
Family was paramount to Eddie, and he cherished every moment spent with his sisters Terria, Roseanna, and Frankie; aunts Sunseria and Sonora; and uncle Gregory Carr; along with many half-siblings, nieces, and nephews and cousins. They will forever hold onto the memories of his infectious laughter, as he was known to make everyone smile with his quick wit and endearing antics. Eddie’s love of music was as vast as his heart; he found joy in singing and dancing, embodying the essence of fun. Whether it was during family gatherings or simple moments at home, Eddie’s good mood lit up rooms and filled the air with warmth and love.
He was preceded in death by his loving father, Eddie F. Dowdell, and his mother, Sarah Suberbey. Eddie also mourned the loss of three sisters—Sahara, Joyce, and Michelle—and a brother, Tony. Each of these losses etched a lasting mark on his soul, yet he continually spread love and joy, honoring their memories through his vibrant spirit.
Eddie's visitation will be held on September 12, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 131 N Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305 with Elder Robert H. Smith officiating. This gathering will be a celebration of a life well-lived, a collection of stories shared and memories cherished.
Though he may have departed from this earth, the impact of Eddie’s life will forever resonate in the hearts of those who loved him. As we bid farewell to our beloved brother, may we remember his joyous spirit, his unwavering kindness, and the illuminating love he spread so freely throughout his life.
