Doris L. Bender
Doris L. Bender, 89 went home to be with Lord on September 9, 2016. She was born on May 14, 1927 in Rogers, TX. She was a member of the Akron Baptist Temple for 69 years. Doris worked in the outreach program and funeral dinners for the church. She was a proud (Texan) southerner and was an amazing cook. She loved and cared for her family and cherished family traditions. Over the past year as her health declined, she was lovingly cared for by her family, especially her daughter, Donna.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Leona Isabel; loving husband, Willard "Bill" Bender of 63 years; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Doris is survived by daughter, Donna (Ed) Galloway; son, Dennis (Jennifer) Bender; 4 grandchildren, Leigh Ann, Edward, Lauren and Thomas; 7 great-grandchildren; and sister, Wanda Cantrell.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday September 14, 2016 from 6-8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305 and funeral service will be held on Thursday September 15, 2016 at 11:30 at the funeral home. Pastor Mike Prebynski officiating. Interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice Care Center on Ridgewood Rd.
