Listen to Obituary

Donald W. Swank of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio passed away on October 25, 2025 at the age of 77. He was born in Somerset, Pennsylvania on December 28, 1947, and was the youngest of five children. He moved with his family to Ohio in 1952. On April 20, 1968, he married his wife of 56 years, Helene Swank. They had two children. Don was a knowledgeable and hardworking employee and supervisor for Krumroy Construction for almost 40 years and a member of the Local 894 Union Hall. After retiring in 2007, he worked part-time for a longtime friend at Decker Muffler in Akron, Ohio. Don was a trusted and dependable husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend. Don, or “Red” as his close friends called him, was an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoors person that went on regular hunting trips and successfully competed in several fishing tournaments over the years. Don’s gift was that he could fix anything: cars, household issues, construction, landscaping, plumbing, electrical issues, etc. He used this gift countless times throughout his life to help those close to him with problems that only he could fix.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Franklin Swank and Sadie Rebecca Swank; wife, Helene Swank; and brothers Terry Swank and Jay Swank; and several dogs and other pets. He is survived by children Terry J. Swank of New Castle, PA and Rhonda Swank of Cuyahoga Falls; siblings Glen (Dinie) Swank of Akron; Leanna (Dave) Weeks of Akron; grandchildren Kristin Cremeans and Kayla Cremeans of Akron; many nieces, nephews, and extended family throughout Ohio, and his two dogs, Kiki and Mitzi that were by his side until the very end. Donald was in and out of hospitals over the final years of his life due to health issues, but he was fortunate enough to have home hospice care for final months. A special thank you to his daughter Rhonda, the Summa Home Hospice staff, and the family and friends that made his final days and months a bit more manageable in the comfort of his own home.

There will be no public showing or service prior to cremation. He will be laid to rest at Northlawn Memorial Gardens with his wife, Helene. Those who wish may make memorial donations in Don's name to One of a Kind Pet Rescue.
