Donald Edgar "Ed" Denning, 85, of Akron, passed away on June 30, 2026 at St. Luke Lutheran Community. He was born on January 28, 1941 to the late Lester and Nellie {Staten} Denning.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother Fred Denning.
Ed earned his Masters of Education at The University of Akron, and was a beloved 5th and 7th grade Math and English teacher at Voris Elementary and Roswell-Kent Junior High. After his retirement, Ed became a licensed massage therapist, pioneering the Massage Therapy program at Stark State University. He also wrote a textbook, "Quick Reference Dictionary for Massage Therapy and Bodywork".
In his free time, Ed loved to bike ride, and he and Gary would often take long distance trips together. He coordinated trips with his friends and fellow members of the Akron Bicycle Club, around Akron and even a trip out West.
On July 21, 2007 he married Brenda Maurer-Denning. She survives, along with his son, Gary Edgar Denning; step-sons Jeff and Chris (Susie) Maurer; granddaughters Layla and CeCe; sister-in-law Aggie Denning; nephews David, John (Angie) and Steve (Laura) Denning; niece Ann Marie Denning; great-nephew Quinn Denning; great-niece Alaina Denning; and many friends.
Family will receive friends at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305 on Tuesday, July 14th from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., when the funeral service will begin with Father Joe Ashby, Mother Kay Ashby and Barbara Bond officiating.
