Don Berringer went home to serve his Lord and Master on Friday, October 30, 2026, in the presence of his son and daughter, under the caring staff of the CICU of University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio.
Born in Akron, Ohio on November 10, 1945, Don lived a full life. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1966-1968, stationed at Camp Pendleton in South California. After he left the Marines, he came back to Akron, where he met and married Judy Koons, a marriage that lasted until Judy’s death in 2022.
Don was a draftsman at Babcock and Wilcox in Barberton, Ohio, and followed that career with more than fifteen years teaching in the public schools. Don’s position at Babcock and Wilcox allowed him to travel several places, and he turned many of these business travels into family vacations. Don’s two children were able to visit every state in the lower forty-eight, even if just driving through.
Don was a dedicated member of First Church of God in Tallmadge, a congregation he has attended since they were located on McKinley Avenue in Akron. He enjoyed volunteering (and shopping) at the annual church rummage sale, as well as his weekly Wednesday breakfasts with some of the men at the Tallmadge Circle McDonalds.
Don also greatly enjoyed attending sporting events with his son, and they were able to go to Fenway Park and watch the Indians. He also loved going to the various symphony orchestra performances in which his daughter played the violin.
There can be absolutely no doubt about one thing— Don simply adored his grandchildren. He would do all he could to see them as often as he could, and was so proud of each and every one of them. He attended their performances, graduations, athletic events, fund raising dinners, and went along to drop them off at college.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald F. and Virginia R. Berringer; his sister, Virginia M. Berringer, and his wife of more than fifty years, Judy K. Berringer. He is survived by his brother, Ronald B. Berringer, his children, Don II (Kelly) and Lisa Zemancik (Joe); grandchildren Ryan and Hannah Berringer; Emma, Nora, and Allana Zemancik; granddaughter Clara Agnes (Colin), and great-granddaughter Adaline Agnes.
