Derrick Deshell Scott

July 28, 1965 — June 7, 2025

Derrick Deshell Scott, a beloved husband, father, and friend, left us on June 7, 2025, in Akron, Ohio, at the age of 59. Born on July 28, 1965, in Warren, Ohio, Derrick’s life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, faith, and a profound dedication to his community.

Derrick was a cherished member of the Alpha and Omega Ministries, where he served as an Apostle, touching the lives of many with his heartfelt teachings. His passion for ministry extended beyond the pulpit; he produced engaging radio programming at 1210 FM and authored six inspiring books that have guided countless individuals in their spiritual journeys. The titles of his works—PRODUCE YOUR SEED, TIME TO CHANGE YOUR OIL, CHURCH ON LIFE SUPPORT, ANOINTED TO SAY NO, GOD BRINGS DEAD THINGS TO LIFE, and NO NEED FOR AN AUTOPSY, LIVE!—reflect his fervent belief in revitalization and empowerment.

A proud graduate of Warren Western Reserve High School, Derrick’s journey also led him to serve in the Air Force from 1984 to 1990, where he developed a deep appreciation for discipline and service. In his professional life, Derrick made significant contributions as the auditor for the City of Dayton, working closely with the Mayor. His love for politics was matched only by his desire to help others, and he was known for his open heart and friendly demeanor, always striking up conversations with anyone he met.

Derrick’s love for family was evident in all aspects of his life. He adored his wife, Ondrea Scott, and was a devoted father to his daughters, LaTerra Shy and LaTrece (Torrie) Dash. As a grandfather to seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Derrick found immense joy in his family gatherings. He treasured moments spent with his siblings, Sitonia Cruse and Juan Scott, as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews. His special nephew, Lashard Washington, held a particularly cherished place in his heart.

Beyond the confines of his career, Derrick loved to travel and found great joy in gardening alongside his cherished wife, cultivating both flowers and memories. His enthusiasm for football made him an avid fan, often rallying friends and family alike to cheer on their favorite teams.

Derrick will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched. His parents, Charlie and Annie Daisy Scott, along with his siblings—Charles, Charlie Ann, Oscar, and Jacquline—preceded him in death, as did his nephew, Kendrick Scott. Their love continues to shine in the hearts of those left behind.

A time to honor Derrick’s remarkable life will be held on June 27, 2025. Visitation will take place from 2 PM to 4 PM, followed by a Funeral Service starting at 4 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 131 N Canton Rd, Akron, OH. Derrick will then be laid to rest at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on July 1, 2025, with services beginning at 2:15 PM.

As we remember Derrick, let us carry forward his legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support for others. His life was a testament to the power of faith and family, and though he has departed from this earthly realm, his spirit will forever remain a guiding light in our hearts.
