David Thomas Walter, of Brimfield Township, Ohio, passed away on October 1, 2026, at the age of 84. He was born on April 3, 1942, in Warren, Ohio, and lived a life marked by hard work, humor, loyalty, and a deep love for the people who mattered most to him.
David proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. and was honorably discharged after four years of service. After his time in the military, he worked at Mohawk Rubber as a tire builder. He later went on to work for Kent State University as a diesel mechanic, where he dedicated more than 20 years of service. He was a man who understood the value of honest work and took pride in doing things well.
Outside of work, David had a true passion for cars, engines, and the thrill of the track. He raced stock cars at Barberton Speedway for many years and loved building classic cars and attending car shows. Among the accomplishments he was especially proud of was the 1963 Chevy Impala 409 that he built himself. He also loved motorcycles and owned a few in his younger years. His interests reached well beyond the garage—he enjoyed playing euchre, loved baseball, and in his later years found great happiness in gardening and lawn care, which he shared alongside his wife, Mary. He also adored his beloved white Shepards, Bo and Bubner.
David will be remembered for his unmistakable sense of humor, his willingness to say exactly what was on his mind, and the loyalty he showed to those he cared about. He was a very loyal friend, and his family and friends were his world. Those who knew him will remember a man with a big presence, a sharp wit, and a heart devoted to the people he loved.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary Walter. He also leaves behind his children, Kevin Walter (Kennie, Kevins longtime partner), Karen Polidora, Steven Walter (Rhonda), and Asher Haddock. He leaves his family with the lasting example of a man who loved deeply, stood firmly in who he was, and found joy in the simple and meaningful parts of life.
David was preceded in death by his father, David Walter; his mother, Mildred Walter; and his sister, Nancy.
