David Michael Schember passed away suddenly on May 3, 2026, at the age of 67. Born July 2, 1958, to Jasper (Jabbo) and Elna Schember, David grew up in Akron’s North Hill and never truly left it behind.
A graduate of North High School, David became the unofficial historian of the neighborhood he loved so dearly. He was the keeper of North Hill’s stories, spending years researching the finest details of its history. His passion for people was evident early on when he helped found the North Hill Social Club, bringing neighbors together for picnics and baseball parades. This dedication continued throughout his life, most notably through his leadership at the Carovillese Club and his organization of the North Hill Christmas parties.
David’s theme in life was simple: he loved his hometown and every person in it. If you lived on the Hill, you were part of his family. He is survived by Brittani Stephens, whom he loved as his own daughter, and her son Michael; his brother Bob (Amy) and their children Sam and Maria (Matt); and his sister Nancy (Mike) VanHorn and their children Angela and Anthony (Michele). He will be deeply missed by his cousins and the community that held him in such high regard.
A celebration of David’s life is scheduled for May 22, 2026, at 4:00 PM at The Carovillese Club. In honor of his legacy, donations may be made to The Carovillese Club. The Carovillese Lodge and Club is located at 570 E. Cuyahoga Falls Ave, Akron, OH, 44310.
