David Patrick Kern, 69, was reunited in heaven with the love of his life, wife Diane, on August 17, 2015. He was a lifelong resident of Akron, Ohio.
Dave retired from First Energy (UWUA Local 126) after 36 years of service. He was admired and loved by his family and friends and truly touched the lives of everyone around him. Dave enjoyed umpiring, golfing, and traveling to Florida to visit family. He loved spending time with friends, especially his best friend, Ronny Sabolesky. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was inducted into the Firestone Stadium Softball Hall of Fame as an umpire.
He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Diane Kern, married 35 years; his father, William Kern; brother, Mark Kern; and father-in-law, Ronald Steadman. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Kern; sisters, Joyce Fuhrman, Cindy Born, and Michele Rivera; son, Brian Kern; daughters, Shelley Reinacher and Julie Kern; mother-in-law, Gearline Steadman; four granddaughters and one grandson.
Family and friends may call on Sunday, August 23, 2015 from 2-5 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
