David Roy Hinkle was born on February 13th, 1945 to Roy and Marvle Hinkle in Cumberland, Maryland. They later moved to Akron, Ohio and settled in North Hill. David graduated from North High School in 1963 and was a successful track athlete. He served in the Army Reserves for six years then became a journeyman electrician in union local 306 until he retired.
He found his true calling serving the Lord in local churches. He later became an ordained minister serving at Community of Christ Church Akron. He also became a spiritual advisor in ARC Recovery Services at church. He spent years dedicating himself to helping people on the road to recovery. Over the years David helped countless individuals overcome their addictions, sharing his stories and testimony.
He is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Marvle, uncle James Hinkle of Frostburg, Maryland; he is survived by his loving wife Emma; his brother Steve (Susie and family); his children Steve, Wendy (Scott Stevens), Mark (Shannon Sinnett); grandchildren, Lauren, Seth, Owen, Carlie, Quinn, and Cameron; nieces and nephews, Tony, Kathy, Dakaotah, Austin, James, Jacob, and Kilee; and life-long friend David (Holmes) Popovich.
David had an infectious personality and touched every person he met. He never met a stranger and had the gift of gab accepting everyone with mercy and grace. He was a man who loved his naps, Oreo cookies, the Ohio State Buckeyes, all Cleveland sports, The Eagles, racketball, baseball, golf, softball, and ESPN. David never missed any of his grandchildren’s football games, tennis matches, or orchestra concerts.
The family will receive friends Sunday October 12th from 4-6pm and Monday October 13th, 10-11am with a celebration of life immediately following at Community of Christ Church Akron; 834 Grant St Akron, Ohio 44311.
