David E. Hillyard Sr. “Booboo,” of Akron, Ohio, passed away on November 4, 2026, in Akron. He was born on April 24, 1943, in Belington, West Virginia.

David will be remembered as a man who loved the outdoors and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Hunting was his passion, and he often returned to his home state of West Virginia for week-long hunting trips. Among his family and hunting buddies, he was known as a good shot, and he always enjoyed talking about hunting, rifles, and anything connected to the sport. He also hunted with his nephews, and some of his happiest times were spent sharing those experiences.

Dave first worked for Norton Company, aka Chamberlin Company, and then retired from Saint Gobain on Gilcrest road, he retired after 49 years of dedicated service as an Extruder Operator.

In addition to hunting, Dave enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, and trying his luck with scratch-off tickets. At home, he kept a bookshelf full of cookbooks and liked trying new recipes. He also made special memories by taking his grandchildren on hunting trips to West Virginia, passing along both his love of the outdoors and time together as a family.

Dave was also known for his personality. He was just plain ornery in the best way, and he loved playing pranks and telling jokes to family and friends. His sense of humor and playful spirit brought laughter to those around him and will be fondly remembered.

Above all, David treasured his family. He is survived by his wife, Janet Hillyard, with whom he shared 59 1/2 years of marriage. He is also survived by his sons, David Hillyard Jr. and John Hillyard, and by John’s partner, Sarah Fink, one daughter, Onie Hillyard "Missy”. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Robbie, Brittney, Sammi, Maddie, Noel, Morgan, and Emma, as well as his great-grandchild, Theo. He is also survived by his sister, Opal Wagner. His family will carry forward many cherished memories of time spent together, laughter shared, and the traditions he loved most.

He was preceded in death by parents, Onie and Walter Lee Hillyard; his brothers, Hubert Hillyard, Roger Hillyard, Dana Hillyard, and Elam Hillyard; and his sisters, Roberta Hillyard, Virginia Hillyard, and Catherine Hillyard.

Dave's wishes were to be cremated, and his family will hold a Celebration of life at a later date.
