David Groetzinger, devoted husband to Vicki and father to Doug, Dean, and Tori, passed away on May 1, 2026. Born September 10, 1948, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Charles and Mae Groetzinger, he grew up learning the family business, Carol Wayne Chocolates. He attended Toccoa Falls Academy for high school and then Nyack College, where he met his wife, Victoria SirLouis.


After graduating, they moved to Akron, Ohio. David pioneered efforts in assisted living homes, successfully championing the rights and community integration of people with disabilities, including winning a case in the U.S. Supreme Court. He later developed a dietary manual and menu planner for assisted living homes as well as writing the award-winning Ultimate Diabetes Meal Planner.


Above all, he was devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife, Victoria SirLouis Groetzinger; his children, Dean Groetzinger (of Perth, Australia) and Victoria (Douglas) Husser (of Green, Ohio); and his grandchildren, Natalie, Levi, Nolan, and Asher.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mae Groetzinger; his son, Douglas Groetzinger; daughter-in-law, Lisa Groetzinger; sister, Diane (Terry) Scanlon; nephew, Wayne Scanlon, and niece, Bethany Scanlon.


He will be remembered for his faith, sense of humor, kindness, wisdom, and selfless love.


A memorial service will be held on Thursday 21 May at 5:30pm, followed by calling hours from 6:30-8pm, at Riverside Alliance Church (2433 S Main St, Akron).
