David Howard Carter, age 83, of Akron, passed away peacefully at home on August 26, 2025.
He was born in Akron on November 17, 1941 to Floyd and Helen (Miller) Carter.
David graduated from Ellet High School and worked at the East Drive In Theater where he met the love of his life, Nancy Wykoff, at the concession stand. They would be wed shortly thereafter on July 2, 1960.
David proudly worked as a rubber worker at Goodyear for 40 years before his retirement. He and Nancy would spend their golden years together as snowbirds in North Fort Myers, Florida.
He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 42 years, helping hundreds of people along the way. He was also a member of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction.
David is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Nancy; children, David and Danny (Laura) Carter and Barbie (Jay) Knoll; grandson, Andrew Carter; great-grandchildren, Madison and Grayson Carter and Emmalyn Frasier; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Alicia Carter-Dice; son-in-law, Doug Knoll; and his sister, Judy (Paul) Carter-Schafer.
Please extend a special debt of gratitude to his daughter Barbie, grandson Andrew, and family friend Peggy, for their unwavering love, compassion and care that was provided for Dave over the last year, so that he could be at home close to his wife, family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to visit at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305) on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 11am until 1pm. His funeral service will begin at 1pm. He will then be laid to rest at Hillside Memorial Park (1025 Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44312).
