"TOGETHER FOREVER"

Darrell M. Thomas, 92, of Akron, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 12, 2026. Born in Akron, Ohio on January 20, 1934 to the late Levi and Cleora (Seese) Thomas, he grew up in Bute, Pennsylvania before returning to Akron with his family.

While a youth in Pennsylvania, Darrell met Barbara Dodson at a church function. They went their separate ways, but fate brought them together again as young adults. Darrell was drafted into the U.S. Army, but Barbara waited patiently for his return and they married February 13, 1960. They were faithful to one another for 66 years, parting on April 16, 2026 when Barbara went home to Heaven.

A man of many talents, Darrell had many careers throughout his life. He sold insurance, worked as a milkman for Borden's Dairy, and sold real estate. He owned two restaurants over the years: Wray's Barbecue Pit and B&K Rootbeer. Darrell retired as a service supervisor at Pepsi Co. Darrell also enjoyed over forty years as an auctioneer.

When he wasn't working, Darrell enjoyed quiet times on local lakes, boating and fishing. He was always available to help others and oversaw the apprenticeships of over twenty other auctioneers.

Darrell and Barbara were deeply rooted in their faith. They were founding members of Evangel Temple, where they he mentored other members and served as a board member and usher. For the past fifteen years, they made their church home at Springfield Assembly of God.

Darrell loved to be around people and made lasting friendships wherever he went. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara; siblings, Myron "Jerry" Thomas, Carlos "Gene" Thomas, Kenneth Thomas, Herbert "Herb" Thomas, Louis "Louie" Thomas, Butch Thomas, Bertha Thomas, Peg Letttie, and Barbara Martin; and grandchildren, Aaron Thomas and Suzanne Thomas.

He will be sadly missed by his sons, Edward (Debbie) Thomas, Jerry (Tessie) Thomas, and Jeff (Carrie) Thomas; grandchildren, Scott (Jen) Thomas, Ryan (Karissa) Thomas, Jerry Thomas, Julie Thomas, Josh Robles, Samantha (Tyler) Slaven, and Cassie Lopp; great-grandchildren, Evelynn, Lucca, Cameron, Corey, Katana, Scarlett, Charleigh, Harper, Marvin, Lillian, and Destiny; special nephew, Jimmy (Kim) Eckbreth; and many other family and friends.

Family and friends may gather at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, on Monday, May 18, 2026 from 4-6 pm to celebrate Darrell and Barbara's lives.
