Darlene Mathews

Darlene Mathews, 77, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026. Born in Akron, Ohio to Dale and Wilma (Graham) Thome, she was a lifelong Akron area resident. She retired from the Akron Police Department, where she worked for 42 years in the training division. She also worked for the Professional Bowler's Association for many years, keeping scores during tournaments. Darlene enjoyed the Akron Symphony, traveling with her sister, bowling, singing in the choir, watching TV, listening to music and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by her nephew, Paul Brooks. She will be sadly missed by her siblings, Irene Brooks, David (Carolyn) Thome; nieces, Lindsey (Nick) Reynolds, Lauren Shepherd; great nieces, Autumn, Elliana; great nephew, Logan.

Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, September 1, 2026 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial donations in Darlene's name to the American Red Cross.
