Darla Kay Elrod

Darla Elrod, age 61, of Norton, Ohio, passed away on June 7, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 14, 1963, in Akron, she lived a life filled with love, laughter, and deep devotion to family, friends, and anyone in need.

For the past 26 years, Darla shared her life with her devoted spouse, Dave Hanlon, building a home filled with warmth, humor, and love. She was a proud mother to Katie (Lauran) Elrod and David (Melissa) Elrod, and a deeply loving grandmother to Blake, William, Ryker, and Nakoa. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Lewis Nicholas, and her mother, Linda Thomas.

Darla is survived by her father, Ron (Pam) Blondheim Sr., her siblings Greg (Missy) Blondheim, Becky Casto (Rick Farr), and Ron (Christine) Blondheim Jr., along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. She is also remembered by, Don Elrod, the father of her children.

She found joy in riding motorcycles, camping, crafting, and cooking — especially when it meant creating something special for others. Darla had a natural ability to make everyone feel like family, often becoming a second mom to those who needed one. Her dog Dewey was her faithful companion, always by her side. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by many.

Darla’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home located at 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio. The family will receive guests from 1:00-3:00pm with the service beginning at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Sophia’s Grace Foundation (https://www.sophiasgracefoundation.org), a local animal rescue — a cause that was close to her heart.
