Listen to Obituary

Damione DeMond Law, affectionately known as “Damon” to his family and friends, was born on October 11, 1975, in Akron, Ohio, to Gwenola Freeman and David Law, Sr. He departed this earthly life on November 30, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving wife and son, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Raised in the church, Damon rededicated his life to Christ and was baptized for the second time on May 25, 2025. He was a devoted member of First Apostolic Church under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Hampton II.

Damon attended Akron Public Schools and graduated in 1994. He possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and founded Down by Law, LLC. He was most recently employed as a production laborer at Rex Hide Industries, where he worked faithfully for 14 years.

A true sports enthusiast, Damon loved all sports but was an avid Baltimore Ravens fan. He enjoyed golf and eagerly taught anyone willing to learn. He also loved playing basketball with friends, his son, and his grandsons. A history buff, Damon spent time reading and researching Black history, biblical history, and politics. He cherished movie nights with his wife, bowling with family, and tending to his immaculate yard. Damon was also a skilled pool player and enjoyed dominoes and cards.

Above all, Damon was devoted to his family. He was a protector and provider, always willing to give the shirt off his back. He loved hosting family and friends at his home, where he served as the official DJ. Known for his unmatched sense of humor, Damon could light up any room and bring joy to those around him. Determined and perseverant, Damon achieved every goal he set his mind to and instilled the values of hard work and leadership in his children, siblings, and anyone willing to learn.

Damon loved to vacation anywhere there was water, sand, and his wife, Keesha. He had a passion for good food, especially his mother’s apple pie and Jamaican curry chicken and goat, honoring his Jamaican roots. Damon also had an eye for fashion and jewelry, always ensuring he looked his best.

He was preceded in death by Elder Arnold Cheatham, Deacon Leonard Law, aunts Yolanda Cheatham and Birdena Cheatham, uncle Leonard Law Jr., aunt Sandra Clark, brother Michael L. Cheatham, and son Alexander (AJ).

Damon leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Keesha Wilson-Law; daughters Aleka, Mariah, and Haley; and devoted son Damione Law; grandchildren Isaiah, Aden, Gracie, and Nora; grandmothers Mother Ola May Cheatham and Dorothy Law; mother Gwenola Freeman (Kenneth) and father David Law, Sr.; siblings David Anthony Law II (Ayesha), Reginald R. Law, Robert Law, Leah McBride (Taurus), Monieka Law, Candace George, and Dante Law; father-in-law Stanley Brazil; mother-in-law Fannie Wilson; sisters-in-law Kendra Brazil Wilson, Carmen Green, and Carmella Green; brother-in-law Sylvester (Tasha) Wilson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends including Veonnes Bolds (Joe), Mario Jones, Sanco Wilson, Jimmy Walker, Glenn Hoffman, and Harry Millward.

During his final days, Damon’s special word was “wholeheartedly,” which means to follow, serve, and obey God with complete sincerity, total commitment, and undivided loyalty without reservation or divided affections. It involves pouring all of one’s love and energy into God’s purposes, being fully committed, and doing so not for human approval, but for His glory. He encouraged his loved ones to live for God with all their hearts. To his wife, he said, “They don’t make them like you anymore. I love you so much. Keep going to church and stay close to God.” To his family and friends, he shared, “I’m going to miss the boys’ basketball games the most. No surrender. No retreat. Jesus walks with me and you. Never doubt Him. Always love your brother.” Damon reminded everyone that “Jesus has the whole world in His hands, and we must change our lives for God—wholeheartedly—for the Kingdom of God. That is where our power is.”
