Dale Phillip Jones, age 83, passed away on July 24, 2025. Born March 12, 1942, in Philippi West Virginia. He was raised in Akron, Ohio by his late parents Maxin and Nina Lee Jones with his siblings Neal Jones and Terry Secrest. This is also where he met the love of his life Joyce Marie Jones at the age of sixteen at the Akron Baptist Temple. He and Joyce dreamed of moving to the “country” and in 1967 they built their dream home in Suffield, Ohio where they proceeded to raise their four children.
Dale’s career began at Danner Press, in Akron, Ohio, where he worked as a typesetter. He then went on to open his own company, JKL Typesetting, from which he retired. He loved all sports and coaching all sports. Upon the arrival of his first grandchild, Andrew, he announced he should be called Grandfather. There would be no silly names for him, but Andrew couldn’t say Grandfather; so Rah-Rah became! He was Rah-Rah to everyone, grandchildren, great grandchild and to all the many children he coached! We will all miss him greatly.
He lived his life as an example to those around him as someone who worked hard for his family and raised them in the church. He and Joyce were Sunday School teachers at the Akron Baptist Temple for over 30 years. He provided them with a good example of how to be not only a good husband, and a good father, but a genuinely good person often advising us to “turn to the other cheek.” He was full of little sayings like that, another family favorite was “Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you” which taught us to not be afraid to try and if we failed then to just try again.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Jones, children, Kelly (David) Staats, Kim (Michael) DeBenedictis, Dale (Kim) Jones, and Chris (Julie) Jones, ten grandchildren and one great grandchildren, Andrew, Marissa, Dale, Allie, Dylan, Alex, Morgan, Adam, Casey, Kendall, and Elijah.
Family and friends are invited to visit Friday, August 1, 2025 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
