Craig A. Holbert, 49, went home to be with the Lord on March 11, 2017. He was born in Akron on July 12, 1967.
Craig graduated from Copley High School and earned degrees from the University of Akron, Kent State University, and Ohio State University. He was an avid book collector and local history buff. He belonged to the Society of Ohio Archivists and Ohio Local History Alliance. For over fifteen years, Craig worked as an archivist at the University of Akron. He co-authored two books: Akron Canton Baseball Heritage and Akron Canton Football Heritage. Craig was a pilot and received his wings from Michael Foreman, a U.S. Navy Captain and NASA Astronaut. He loved animals and was a supporter of the Humane Society. He was a member of The Chapel in Green.
Craig will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Angela; son, Christopher Holbert; stepson, Michael Carter; parents, Dallas and Janet Holbert; mother-in-law, Shirley Carter; many other relatives and friends. Family and friends may call on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 12 noon. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Chapel - Green Campus.
