Clayton R. Cozart, born on February 6, 1966, in Akron, Ohio, passed from this world on June 23, 2025, in Copley, Ohio, after a life that was a testament to service, laughter, and unwavering loyalty. A proud graduate of North High School and Broadcasting School, Clayton’s path eventually led him to the Police Academy in 1995, where he found his calling as a dedicated Detective with the Akron Police Department, a role he cherished. His commitment extended far beyond the badge. He served with distinction as the President of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), Akron Lodge #7, and was an integral member of the Board of Trustees for the Police and Fire Pension Fund. He also contributed his time and expertise as part of the Executive Board of FOP Akron Lodge #7.
Clayton’s life was marked by an infectious warmth, a sharp sense of humor, and an enduring passion for helping others. His spirit was a beacon of joy and kindness, and those who knew him were often touched by his genuine enthusiasm and generous heart. He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether in spirited conversations about sports, in his love for travel, boating, and golfing, or in the exuberance he brought to each Kenny Chesney concert he attended. Clayton’s zest for life was undeniable, and he made every moment count.
His deepest connections were always with his family and friends, including his siblings, Russell II (Diane), Russell Jr., and Todd Cozart, along with a host of nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. His beloved pets, Marley and Dakota, were his constant companions, embodying the loyalty and love that he so freely gave to all who knew him.
Clayton leaves behind a cherished friend in David Healy, whose bond with him was a testament to the enduring power of friendship. His loss is felt deeply, not just by those who shared his life, but by the community at large, which has lost a man who dedicated himself wholeheartedly to lifting others up.
Reunited now with his beloved parents, Russell Sr. (Betty) and Judy Cozart, and his brother Doug Cozart, Clayton is also remembered with love alongside his dear pets, Tiffany and Maddie.
