Cheryl “Sherry” Doak, age 68, of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026 surrounded by family and love. She was born March 11 1957, the fourth child to William and Lois Allen. A lifelong resident of Akron, she was a graduate of Coventry High School’s class of 1975, and worked for a number of local businesses including Chez Del Interiors, Casnet and Sterling Jewelers until her retirement. Sherry was deeply rooted in her community and, most of all, in her family.
Sherry was the devoted wife of Gary Doak, with whom she shared 38 years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on love, loyalty, and family.
She was the proud and loving mother of Jeremy (Whitney), Brian (Alicia), Nicole (Steve), Zachary, and Alexander (Ariel). Her greatest joy came from being “Mom,” a role she embraced with her whole heart and unmatched dedication. No matter the circumstance, Sherry was always willing to do whatever it took to help her children—selflessly, fiercely, and without hesitation.
Sherry was also a deeply cherished grandmother to Brian “Buddy,” Blaine, Matthew, Adam, Savannah, Allison, Nora, Chandler, Olivia, and Dylan. Being “Grandma” was one of her proudest roles, and her love for her grandchildren knew no bounds.
She is also survived by her brother Bruce, her many nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Kenneth, and her sisters Carol and Debra.
Those who knew Sherry will remember her as loving, strong, giving, and fiercely loyal. She found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life—time with her family, a good book from her extensive collection, quilting, puzzles, crafting, and the thrill of a great yard sale find. She especially treasured the beach and looked forward every year to cherished family trips to Myrtle Beach, where many memories were made.
Above all else, Sherry’s legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply. Her steady presence, generous heart, and unwavering devotion will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 6th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N. Canton Rd., Akron) where services will be held at 3:00pm with Pastor Stephen Neumeyer officiating.
