Charles R. "Dick" Steele
Charles R. "Dick" Steele, the gentle and caring patriarch of our family has peacefully gone home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 17, 2015, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born January 20, 1933, Dick grew up in Lakemore and attended Springfield High School. He proudly served his country with the Marine Corps during the Korean War and retired after 28 years of service with General Tire and again retired after 17 years with Metro RTA. Our hearts are broken, but we rejoice in the knowledge that we will see him again. He will be remembered for his quick wit, fairness, competitive athleticism and generous spirit. Dick was always a straight shooter with family and friends.
He was a loving and faithful Husband to his wife, Vicki; supportive and devoted Dad to his daughters, Darlene (Alan) Lowery of Greentown, IN, Cindy Shumski of Ellet, Fay (Matt) Gohl of Charlestown, IN, and Lori (Glen) Hamrick of Manchester; proud, role model to grandchildren Sarah (David) Canada and Ashley (Zach Funk) Lowery, Jessica (Ryan) and Kristina Shumski, Matthew Gohl, Aaron (Linda) Gohl, Amanda (Efrain) Montes, Josh (Ashley) Gohl, Gabriel (Georgette) and Chris (Brian Headley) Hamrick. Dick is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, Faythe Timms, Juanita Craft, Charlene (Rich) Lautzenheiser, Jim Steele, and Jack Steele. Special thanks to Michael Gedeon MD for his personal care of Dick over the years, our great neighbors and all who visited Dick. Also our nieces and nephews, who brought much joy to his life. And to Pastor Brenda Young for her above and beyond care of Dick's spiritual needs.
Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Full military burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Semper Fi Darling, till we meet again!
