Charles Fred Chancey
Fred Chancey, 90, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord with his family by his side on December 16, 2015. He was a good and peaceful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Fred was born on December 28, 1924 in Stow, Ohio to the late Theodore and Ruth Chancey. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Motor Machinist 2nd Class. His service was in the South Pacific Theater and Occupied Japan. Fred retired from Citgo Petroleum. He was a member of Forest Hill Community Christian Church for 82 years, where he served as Deacon Emeritus and as chairman of the Deacon Board. Fred was a gifted musician and played the piano, accordion, and harmonica.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford and Bruce Chancey; and son-in-law, Dennis Jones.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 69 1/2 years, Donna M. Chancey; children, Donna Jean (Ben) King, Tim (Mary Rita) Chancey, Jack Chancey, and Kelleen Jones; grandchildren, Daniel King, Joshua (Sara) Chancey, Todd (Sharon) King, and Zak Chancey; great-grandchildren, Chazz Chancey, Phoenix King, Rilyn Chancey, Aubree Chancey, Hudson King, and Asher King; brother-in-law, Robert (Betty) Learn; and sisters-in-law, Virginia Kenney and Jane Learn.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m., Pastor David Shew officiating. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
