Charles E. Lesher
Charles E. Lesher, 75, of Akron, passed away after a short illness on April 19, 2015. He was born in Richland, Virginia on July 6, 1939. Chuck proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam for 5 years, 10 months, and 23 days, attaining the rank of Captain.
His family will always remember how well the Big D took care of them. He took pleasure in feeding his family while catering to each of their needs. Chuck had a gift for hospitality. He often invited servers from local restaurants to drop in and go fishing, and many of the staff members at Tres Potrillos took him up on his offer. Chuck loved animals and took in many pets over the years. He was an excellent tennis player and made friends through the sport wherever he went. He also was a mentor to the members of ABC Boot Camp.
His last words to all of us were, "Be brave. Be strong."
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Ella Lesher and his biological mother, Florence McKeand. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 34 years, Alice Lewis; children, Michael (Kim), Kurt (Mary), Jennifer (Bill) Scott, Hayes (Laura), Chris (Lora), Danny (Batool), and Diana; stepdaughters, Francina and Katherine to whom he gave his heart when they were four and two years old; three sisters; two brothers; seventeen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many friends he met on and off the tennis court.
A celebration of Chuck's life will be held Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at Montrose Zion United Methodist Church, 565 N. Cleveland-Massillon Rd, Akron, OH 44333. He will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
