Carolyn Sue Smith, born on October 6, 1941, in Shinnston, West Virginia, peacefully passed away on December 12, 2025, in the comfort of her home in Barberton, Ohio. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, Carolyn was a force of love and strength in the lives of all who were fortunate to know her.
Her family was the heart of her existence. Carolyn delighted in spending time with her children, Colleen (Greg Seifert) Kiedrawski and Michael (Paula) Hill, who brought her immense joy and pride. As a grandmother, she formed a special bond with her granddaughter, Lindsay, who was not only her best friend but also a source of endless happiness. Carolyn's grandchildren—Clayton (Ashley) Lutes, Mike (Alexa) Hill, Matt Hill, and Brandon Kiedrawski—filled her days with laughter and love, while her great-grandchildren, Cruz, Alex, Charleigh, and Emily, were the light of her life.
Carolyn's enduring spirit was shaped by the memories of her late parents, David and Louise Riley, who instilled in her a sense of compassion and generosity. She carried with her the love of her departed daughter, Brenda Hill, as well as that of her siblings, David Riley, Shirley Waters, and Phyllis Campbell. Their absence created a void in her heart, yet she honored their memories through her unwavering love and devotion to her family.
Aside from her deep-seated love for her family, Carolyn was a vibrant personality who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She found solace in reading historical romance stories, where she would often escape to different worlds. Her affinity for storytelling was matched by her enthusiasm for watching the show Yellowstone, which often sparked lively conversations with her loved ones.
Among her many friends, she cherished the companionship of her brothers-in-law, Michael Waters and Jack Campbell, who always brought warmth and camaraderie into her life. Carolyn was known for being “one hell of a woman,” a phrase often used by those who admired her tenacity and zest for life.
Carolyn Sue Smith leaves behind a legacy woven with love, laughter, and unity—a testament to a life well-lived and a heart that enriched the lives of everyone she touched. She will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will continue to inspire her family and friends for generations to come.
The family has a special thank-you to Lindsay, Sara and Kelly for their love and devotion and exceptional care they gave Carolyn.
