Carolyn Gail Richardson, a beloved figure in the hearts of many, was born on February 12, 1939, in Akron, Ohio, to Paul and Lelia Mae (Besinger) Smith. She departed this world on July 23, 2025, in Fairlawn, Ohio, leaving behind a legacy woven with love, resilience, and cherished memories.
For twenty-five years, Carolyn dedicated her life to serving others as a Nurses Aid at Massillon State Hospital. Her compassionate care and unwavering commitment to her patients were a testament to her character. She was straightforward, honest, and universally liked—qualities that defined her interactions both personally and professionally.
A proud mother, Carolyn raised three wonderful boys: Rob (Brenda), Rick (Lisa), and Randy (Teresa) Richardson. She took immense pride in their accomplishments, especially in watching them graduate from high school, a reflection of her commitment to education that began with her attending Springfield High School and receiving her GED. With her strong faith and nurturing spirit, she instilled values in her children that they carry forth in their own families.
Carolyn's love knew no bounds, particularly when it came to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She reveled in her role as a grandmother to eight, including Nick (Christina) Richardson, Carly Richardson, Brittney (Jeff) Broadwater, Misty Spedaliere, Zach (Samantha) Richardson, Corey (Brittany) Richardson, Angela (Craig) Demrovsky, Jason (Chrissy) Mellon, Leeann (Isaiah) Richardson, Megan Richardson; and 12 great-grandchildren. Her heart swelled with joy for her twelve great-grandchildren, each a testament to her enduring legacy of love and family.
Among the many things that brought Carolyn joy were the holidays, with a special fondness for Christmas. She created lasting memories for her family, known for her baking skills that produced delicious cakes for birthdays and weddings alike. Her culinary talents, coupled with her passion for family gatherings, forged traditions that will be carried on by those she loved.
Carolyn’s warmth and nurturing personality left an indelible mark on the lives of many, making them feel welcome and cherished. She had a unique gift of connecting with everyone around her, creating bonds that spanned generations.
She is predeceased by her parents Paul and Lelia Mae (Besinger) Smith, as well as her two brothers Larry and Earl Smith, and her sister Barb Lewis. The absence of these family members has surely left a void, but their memories will forever remain etched in Carolyn's heart and those of her family.
