Listen to Obituary

Carolyn Sue Lynch (also known as Carolyn Biltz or Carolyn King) was born in Sand Fork, West Virginia in 1939, the second daughter of Ralph Hayes Lynch and Vesta Rose (Garrett) Lynch. Upon looking at her, her father exclaimed that she looked like a polka dot, and the nickname continued. She grew up in Portage County, graduating from Ravenna High School in 1957.

That summer, she took a job as a phone operator at Columbia Records in Cleveland, Ohio. New to the job, she once had the privilege of hanging up on Johnny Mathis. Her other jobs included working at the Second National Bank of Ravenna, and as a proof-reader for several years with the Record Courier (newspaper) of Ravenna. In the 1970s and 80s, she worked with the Police Community Dialogue Program before she eventually began working at Associated Estates, first, as an administrative secretary and finally, as a rental manager.

She was an active member of the Akron community, volunteering as scout leader, room parent, PTA secretary and President, and as a band parent and chaperone. After her children were raised, she went on to pursue an Associate’s degree. In later years, she continued to donate her time as a Sunday School teacher at First United Methodist Church of Akron, where she also performed with the church drama club. Even when she could no longer attend church, she continued to display a passion for sharing the knowledge of Christ with others in her residential Paul Belcher Senior Housing building, acting as the prayer pastor and leading Bible studies.

She was an avid reader with a love of books today’s generation may not understand. She even read the newspaper until her eyesight started failing due to macular degeneration. She collected salt and pepper shakers, displaying some at the holidays and some permanently in her windows and China Hutch.

Preceded in death by her parents, three siblings - Roberta, Bill, and Richard; 2 half-siblings - William and Ralph; both ex-husbands, Tom Biltz and Bruce King; daughter, Christina Turnbull; two step-children- Bruce King Jr. and Kathy Rozar; son-in-law, Tim Drushal, and great grandson, Matthew Clark.

She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Drushal of Tennessee and Carrie Shultz (Steve) of Mogadore, Ohio; two step-daughters, Karla Edwards (Chuck) of Cuyahoga Falls and Karen Saunders (Steven) of Mentor, Ohio; four half-siblings, Bobby Lynch, Susan Shaffer (Cuy. Falls), Thomas Lynch (Ocala, Florida) and Valerie Dorsey (Akron, Ohio); 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

A Celebration of Carolyn’s life will take place on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 5pm at Community Life Church, 106 S. Cleveland Ave, Mogadore, OH, officiated by Pastor Gordon Hayberg. Friends and family are welcome to visit from 4pm until the memorial service at 5pm. Per Carolyn’s wishes, cremation has already taken place.

“16 Always be joyful. 17 Always keep on praying. 18 No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
