Carl David Sandridge was born in his parents' home on Wednesday, April 5, 1933. David, as his mother lovingly called him, as the biblical meaning for David is beloved, was dedicated and later baptized at the Goodyear Baptist Church. He was an excellent student all through his school years, graduating from Akron East with honors. He served in the Army Reserves having received his commission through ROTC. He also attended the University of Akron. He worked at the Goodyear, Mohawk and Seiberling Tire Companies retiring at age 72 from PPG Industries as a chemical engineer.
With his first wife, Wanda, he leaves daughters Robin and Michele with grandson Carl David and his daughter Calista. With current wife Betty Ann they shared in the joy of their daughter Katharine while he embraced Pamela, Randy, Kimberly and Christine as his own along with their children Steven, Mary, Timothy, Amber, Dana, Elizabeth, and Jeremy.
Dave had a zest for life, enjoying steam engines, cars, fishing, music and a good meal (hot dogs and cheap beer to be exact)! His boisterous laugh, ornery nature (pull my finger), infectious smile and twinkling blue eyes will be forever ingrained in our memories. As life went on, Dave experienced a renewal of his faith which had been instilled in him from his childhood growing up in the Goodyear Heights Baptist Church and then later at The Chapel. He was a giving man, devoted father, loving husband and a friend to his best buddy Jack who greeted him at the Rainbow Bridge at the gates of heaven. Many thanks to Rev. Ed Witchey for providing comfort to Dad through their may hours of conversations about the love of living for Christ.
Family and friends are invited to visit Sunday, November 8, 2026 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Goodyear Heights Baptist Church, 1767 Goodyear Blvd. in Akron. A Celebration of Life service will follow at the church at 3:30 p.m.
