Carl Bennett "Ben" Sarver, Jr.
Carl "Ben" Sarver, Jr. of Lakeland FL, formerly from Akron, OH passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, FL with his loved ones at his side. Ben was a kind and gentle man with many gifts and talents. He dearly loved his family, his friends, and will be remembered for his easy-going manner, tender heart, and that he loved to laugh. Ben was born July 26, 1927, in Parkersburg, WV, the son of Orpha and Carl Sarver, Sr. Ben was a veteran of the United States Navy having served at the end of World War II, and was a Mason in the Ohio Lodge. He married his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Martin Sarver, on July 1, 1949. Ben worked for 27 years at the Akron Beacon Journal. He and Dorothy moved to Lakeland, FL in 2000. Ben was an avid fan of all Cleveland sports teams. He also coached young people in baseball from Ellet Little League to Hoban and Ellet High Schools. Ben enjoyed drawing and painting. Several of his paintings were in Cleveland art shows. Ben is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter Lynda (Paul) Gaug; sons, Tom (Phyllis) Sarver, and John (Janis) Sarver; grandchildren, Melissa (Taylor) Genson, Andrew Gaug, Jonathan, Rachel, Mark (Erin), Julianne (Mark) Leffler and Kristin (Brian) Rummer; seven great-grandchildren; brother, William (Patricia) Sarver and sister MaryLou McCarthy. Ben was preceded in death by his parents; brother Charles, and brother-in-law John McCarthy. Calling hours will be Friday, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Rd, Akron from 4:00 – 7:00 pm where funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday with Dr. Gary Colledge officiating. A private burial service will take place at the convenience of the family. The family is very grateful for the kindness and care of the palliative and hospice care unit at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
