Bruce John Vandegrift was born on August 31, 1951, passing on July 17, 2025 following unforeseen complications during surgical procedures.
Bruce is proceeded in death by his father and his mother, Lawrence and Anna Jean Hope Vandegrift; and brother, Thomas Vandegrift.
He is survived by wife, Myra Vandegrift; son, Shawn (Sandy) Newpher; sister, Conniejo (Chris) Helems; grandchildren, Andrew (Alexis) Newpher, Emily Newpher, Lauren Matney (Charles Gobley) and Ryan Matney; great-grandchildren, Kinsley Newpher and Barrett Newpher; as well as many nephews and nieces.
He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. Bruce's legacy includes his unconditional love and dedication to his loved ones.
Bruce served the Tallmadge community for 37 years while working for the City of Tallmadge Street Department. He also spent time working at General Tire. He proudly served as a school bus driver for Tallmadge and Rootstown, ensuring the safety of many students who gave him the nickname, Mr. Bus Driver.
Bruce was passionate about motorcycling, and he found joy riding his Harley with his wife Myra. He was known for his enthusiasm within the riding community. Bruce also enjoyed camping and riding his side-by-side with family and friends.
Bruce volunteered with the Deyarmin Foundation, which assists American Disabled Veterans. He also supported breast cancer patients by volunteering with Bikers for Boobs, Akron.
Bruce was known for his humor and warmth, making him a cherished friend. His family always came first. His spirit of love, laughter, and loyalty will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are welcome to visit at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305) on Thursday, July 24, 2025 from 5pm until 7pm.
Bruce's Funeral Service will be held the following day at 12pm with an hour visitation prior. He will then be laid to rest at Tallmadge Cemetery (35 Southwest Avenue, Tallmadge, OH 44278) following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bruce's memory to Deyarmin Foundation (3832 Hudson Drive, Stow, OH 44244) or Akron Bikers for Boobs (4584 Cobblestone Trail, Ravenna, OH 44266).
