Brad McGarvey

Brad McGarvey, 88 passed away peacefully at home on April 16, 2026. Born in Big Run, PA, he resided in both Akron and Edinburg Township most of his adult life. Brad graduated from Carson Long Military Academy in 1956. He then joined the U. S. Marine Corps and was a proud Veteran. Brad enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping, gardening (for which he won many awards), watching sports (most especially Penn State, Notre Dame and Ohio State football). Above all, he loved spending time with his family and grandkids. Brad will be remembered for his unconditional love, integrity, discipline and hard work.

Brad was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynette Skinner; son-in-law, Steve Russell. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy; daughter, Melody Russell; grandchildren, Joe Haney, Dan Haney, Holly Skinner, Heidi (Ryan) Honaker; great grandchildren, Briella, Ruby, Olivia and Jase.

Brad lived a remarkable life and was always there for his family. He never met a stranger, always finding it easy to strike up a conversation with anyone. His career path included retail management, insurance sales and serving as a realtor for 30 years.

Family and friends are invited to visit Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 12 to 1 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial donations in Brad's name to the charity of their choice.
