Bernice I. Hancock, 87, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born March 30, 1926 in Cullman, Alabama to the late John Chesser and Ruby Chesser-Ward. A devoted matriarch, she loved her boys and grandchildren. Bernice relied on her faith and served as a dedicated member of Southeast Church of Christ in Mogadore. She retired as a seamstress from Montgomery Ward in 1985 and enjoyed athletics, gardening and hunting at yard sales.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Voyt D. Hancock, and brothers; Melvin and Elvie Chesser. She is survived by her sons; Ken and Greg Hancock, grandchildren; Kenny, Krista, Michael, Ridge and Ryan (Tanya), brother Raymond Chesser, and many nieces, nephews and relatives. Friends and family may call 6-8 pm on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the funeral home with Minister Vernon Teagarden officiating. Final resting place will be at Hillside Memorial Park.
