Bernice Chapman

Bernice Chapman, 92, of Akron, passed away October 29, 2014. Bernice was born in Deerfield, Ohio on December 18, 1921 to the late John and Margaret Haines. Bernice retired from O'Neils after 43 years from the downtown Akron store. In her younger years she enjoyed traveling, bowling, vacationing and spending time with the Sampson clan at family reunions. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack; son, Dennis; brothers, Harold, Lawrence, Ben and Paul Haines. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Linda; granddaughter, Dawn Marie (Adam); grandson, Scott (Heidi); great-grandchildren, Patrick Caleb, Aiden and Addisan; nieces, Pat and Kay; great grand dogs, Murphy, Harlow, Phil, Carlos, and Ichabod, and special care giver Sarah Miller. Family and friends may call on, Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 4:00pm with The Rev. Elizabeth Frank officiating. Interment will be on Tuesday, November 11 at 2:00pm at Rose Hill Burial Park.
