Bernard G. Montella, age 69, went home to be with the Lord on July 22, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Known to many as Bernie, he was a trailer mechanic by trade — a creative and inventive man who often built his own tools to get the job done.
One of Bernie’s proudest hobbies was fishing. He once received an award for catching a 46-inch, 29.5-pound Muskie in Deer Creek — an achievement so notable that he was congratulated personally by Governor Rhodes.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Pam; his sons Anthony, Andrew, Aaron (Liz), and Alex (Alix); and his grandchildren Eli, Gina, Giulia, and Gemma. He is also survived by his sisters, Brenda and Debbie, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Bernie was preceded in death by his sister Ruby and his parents, Bernard and Maude Montella.
Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, July 29, 2025 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Hillside Memorial Park.
