Benny Lee Barker
1957-2015
Benny Lee Barker, 57, of Akron, passed away February 28, 2015, in his home with family at his side. He was born in Alliance, Ohio, to John and Pearlie Barker. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carol Lynn; his son Carl and daughter-in-law Susan; four grandsons, Joshua, Cody, Jacob and Austin; and one great-granddaughter Quorra.
He is also survived by his brothers, Gene of Akron, Donald of Las Vegas, Nevada, Vond of Thomasville, North Carolina, Finley of Alliance; his sister, Betty Reed of Akron; and numerous brothers/sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. Benny was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Vernon, and sister Lula Reisch.
Benny served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge in 1982. He was employed as an electrician at Sunoco Logistics at the time of his passing. Benny was a loving brother, husband, and father. He will be remembered for his generosity, willingness to help others, and contagious laughter.
William James said, "We don't laugh because we are happy, we are happy because we laugh." Benny was happy because he laughed, and many laughed with him.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2015 from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. funeral service with Rev. Bill Howe officiating at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron.
