Barbara E. Madonio, was called home June 24, 2025 just one day after her 92nd birthday. She was born on June 23, 1933 in Crawford County, Bucyrus, Ohio to Cecil and Vera Smith.
She was a graduate of Coventry High School, Class of 1951. Three years after high school she met the love of her life, Larry. They were engaged on Valentine's Day and married on June 26, 1954 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ravenna.
Throughout her life Barb knew no strangers. She would stop and talk with anyone, anywhere, anytime. She and Larry traveled from one end of the country to the other. She enjoyed going to Broadway shows in New York City as well as locally. Her family and friends were always eager to enjoy her homemade spaghetti which she learned to make with the direction of her mother-in-law.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; brothers Edward (Ruth) Smith and Cecil Smith; and sister Mary McFarland.
Barbara is survived by her children Michael (Diana) Madonio and Sue (Mike) Denholm; grandchildren Stephanie (Donald) Denholm, Kristin (Josh) Williams, Joe (Ashley) Madonio, Matt (Lisa) Denholm, and Rachael Denholm; great-grandchildren Keith, Kyle, Anthony, Leah, Jonathan, Parker, Adalyn, Gavin, and Rowan; great-great grandchildren MacCoy, Lennox and Elton; sister Annie Niemann; sister-in-law Woodie Jean Smith; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Danbury Tallmadge for the care she received for the last four plus years.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 30th from 10:00am to 11:00am at St. Matthew's Catholic Church (2580 Berne St., Akron) where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am with Fr. Michael Williamson officiating.
Interment will be held at St Mary's Cemetery in Ravenna.
