Archie Ray Somerville

Archie Ray Somerville, 88, of Akron, passed away at his home on November 9, 2025. He was born in Elizabeth, WV on July 24, 1937 to the late George and Donna {Schoolcraft} Somerville.

In addition to his parents, Archie was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Ellen {Hoffman} Somerville; brothers Hubert and Eugene Somerville.

Archie is survived by his loving step-children, Sharon "Sherry" (Bill) Chalfant and George (Brenda) Chalfant; granddaughter April; grandson Eric (Chelsea) Chalfant; great-grandchildren Nelia, Kaleb and Gabriella.

Archie was a local and long haul truck driver, retiring from APA after over 30 years on the road. He was a member of Local 348 and Local 24 unions. Archie was also a member of the Teamsters Retirees Club.

Archie was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, and was a longtime member of The Lake Milton Fish & Game Club. He also enjoyed shooting pool, playing euchre and trap shooting.

Family and friends are invited to visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305 on Monday, November 17th from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., when the funeral service will begin with Glenn Fear officiating. Interment to follow the service at Hillside Memorial Park, where Archie will be laid to rest with his wife, Mary Ellen. In lieu of flowers, donations in Archie's memory are suggested to the Lake Milton Fish & Game Club, P.O. Box 192 Lake Milton, OH 44429.
