Listen to Obituary

Antionette “Toni” S. Martz, 88, of Tallmadge, passed away at her home on her own terms on January 21, 2026. She was born on May 15, 1937 in Akron, Ohio to the late Michael and Amelia Ruggieri. She attended St. Mary’s High School.

Toni was a natural born care giver: she was a caring big sister, a devoted mother to her children, and later a mother figure to countless people. She was a beacon of love and an advice giver to many of her children’s friends. She hosted dinners, full of pasta and laughter for the Woodridge football team on Friday nights and during two-a-day practices.

Toni held several valuable positions throughout her life; she was an office manager for a psychiatrist for over 15 years, a patient liaison at JFK Hospital in Florida, a baker for DeVitis Market, and in her younger days was a shoe salesperson, where she met some of her lifelong friends. She also worked as a caregiver for a few assisted living facilities in the area.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Martz, who she would have been married to for 68 years this December; her sons, Robert L., Raymond M., and Ronald Martz; sister and brother-in-law, Paula and Tom King; brother, Michael “Mickey” Ruggieri; cousin, Sylvana “Iana” Ruggieri, who was like a sister to her.

She is survived by her children, Michael Martz and Dawn Martz (Norman Ruest); daughter-in-law, Susan Martz; grandchildren, Patrick (Jennifer), Natalie (Caleb), Lauren, and Nicholas; great-grandchildren, Rosalee Bobbi, and Lachlan; sisters, Victoria (Ron) Drushal, and Marie (Eric) Christensen; brother-in-law, Bill (Peggy) Martz; sister-in-law, Mary “Merk” (Tom) Zeller; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Per Toni’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of her Life will take place this spring or summer.
