Anna Ries (Krzeminski) 90, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2014. Anna, born in a small village near Bologna, Italy, was the oldest of six siblings working together in the local farming community.
Surviving the perils of WWII, to meet U.S. GI. Jimmy Ries in the post-war occupation of Northern Italy. She soon married the love of her life in Trieste and together they came to the U.S. in 1949. Anna was able to overcome the challenges of her new life working hard in the finest Italian restaurants in the era, utilizing her culinary skills and making life-long friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, Francesco and Cesarina; husbands, James Ries and Roman Krzeminski; brothers, Giorgio, Attilio and Dino all of Bologna, Italy. She is survived by her brother, Irmo (Bianca); sister, Maria, and many nieces and nephews in Bologna, Italy; daughter, Maria of California; sons, David of Akron and Roger who is currently in Japan.
With Anna's passion for cooking and entertaining, no stranger ever entered her home; only friends she had not yet met. Said by many to be the best Italian cook ever. Her love of life and outgoing personality ensures that memories of "Anna's Kitchen" will live on in our hearts forever.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014 in Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron from 4 to 7pm with a memorial service to follow at 7:00pm with Fr. Joe Kury officiating.
