Andrew R. Maxwell

Andrew R. Maxwell, 73, went to be with the Lord on October 15, 2025. He graduated from Garfield High School.

Andy dedicated his life to service and generosity, beginning his journey with the Akron Jaycees in 1976. He wholeheartedly embraced their creed, “service to humanity is the best work of life,” becoming a testament to this through his countless hours of involvement. His commitment was recognized with numerous local honors, including Jaycee of the Month and Quarter, all of which fueled his deep love for the community he served.

For three decades, Andy devoted himself to the Akron and All-American Soap Box Derby, and he spent an impressive 50 years volunteering with Northern Ohio Golf Charities. In his various roles, he most recently took pride as Co-Chairman of the Barn, a position that showcased his leadership and dedication. His selfless contributions earned him the Dave Franklin Memorial Award for volunteerism in 1995, solidifying his legacy as a life member of this cherished organization. Among his heartfelt endeavors, Andy particularly cherished his time with “Project Santa Claus,” where he delighted in taking families in need shopping for Christmas, often dressing up as Santa to deliver gifts.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Anna Maxwell; his foster parents, Joseph and Margaret Colant; siblings, Dorothy Badgett, Tom Maxwell, James Colant, Peggy Wichman, and Patty Scarpelli.

Left to cherish Andy’s memory are his brothers, Robert (Donna) Maxwell, Gerard (Jo) Colant, Chris (Marcia) Colant; sister, Helen (Michael) Rothberg; nephew, Rick (Tracy) Badgett; close friend, Dean Fygetakes; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will take place for Andy on Friday October 31, 2025 at 11am at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Rd, Uniontown, OH 44685. Friends and family are welcome to visit from 10am until the time of mass.  Following the mass, Andy will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery, 100 E Waterloo Rd, Akron, OH 44319.
