Alston R. Ankrom Sr., known to his friends as "Bud", passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 28, 2025. Bud was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia on October 25, 1939 to the late Lee and Ruth Ankrom. His family moved to Akron, Ohio in his youth. After graduation, Bud enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for four years as an Aviation Machinist's Mate, Jet Engine Mechanic, Petty Officer Third Class. After his military career, Bud returned home to a position at BF Goodrich. He developed a love for racing after working on tires for the Indy 500. He retired after over 35 years of employment.
In his free time, Bud enjoyed shooting and playing with his beloved dogs, Sammy, Teddy, Dusty, and Zeus. He also had a dear cat, Tiffany.
Bud was a wonderful, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather and will be truly missed by everyone who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his sisters, Karen and Burljean; daughter, Wendy; and stepdaughter, Dolly.
Bud is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Maria; children, Vic Ankrom and Ray (Melony) Schumacher; grandsons, Michael, Raymond, Matthew, and Scott; numerous siblings; and many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit on Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 5-8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Where funeral services will be held on Friday, November 7th at 12:30 p.m. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
