ALLEN C. GREEN
After being diagnosed just weeks ago with a terminal illness, Allen C. Green passed away at his residence on October 13, 2014, at the age of 70. Al grew up in Akron, graduated from East High School and then served his country in the United States Navy. After returning home from the service, Al joined the Akron Police Department where he served as a patrolman and detective for over 27 years before retiring in 1993. Allen really enjoyed riding motorcycles, especially his Honda Gold Wing. After marrying his wife Jacque in 1992, the two of them had a goal of actually riding a motorcycle in all 50 states of the U.S.A., successfully obtaining that goal before his death. Because of this love for riding motorcycles, he became a member of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club in 1983. Over the years he held every office in the Local Chapter and really enjoyed the comradery with other Blue Knights members, as well as riding in Blue Knights events for the benefit of others. He eventually became a lifetime member of the Blue Knights. Al, who usually didn't dwell on his helping others, was always beaming when he'd complete a "poker-run" or some other type of "motorcycle run" that assisted a person in need, or helped a charitable cause. Al also belonged to the Akron FOP #7 Retirees. He was jokingly referred to as "Chef Claude" by family and friends, due to his passion for conjuring up and trying to get all of us to sample exotic or different kinds of foods he would read about and then attempt his own rendition. An avid reader who was willing to pretty much try anything that caught his interest, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his son, Justin, and grandson "Little Justin," as well as other family and friends. Over the last few years he enjoyed walking around the Hartville Flea Market looking for the freshest fruit and vegetables and good deals on things to buy, as well as having coffee at the market with his friends on Thursday mornings.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Edward L. Green Sr. and Olive M. Green, his brother, Edward L. ("Eddie") Jr., and father-in-law Stephen A. Barry, as well as other family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Jacque, his son Justin Flanagan, grandson Justin II, sister, Judy Knapp (Bob Geer), mother-in-law Ilene Barry, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Steve and Kathy Barry, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44305. A funeral service will be held immediately following calling hours at 4 p.m. at the funeral home, Jim and Nell Orndorf officiating. Per Al's wishes, cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration be given to donate to the Blue Knights, Ohio VI Chapter (these can be sent to Blue Knights @ 5221 Donner Road, Clinton, Ohio 44216) or to a charity of your choice in remembrance of Al.
