There are not enough words to express the amount of sorrow we feel with the passing of our beautiful mom, Alice Crabtree, on July 1, 2025.
Mom touched the lives of so many people. She was the kindest soul. She was so giving. She gave to others instead of giving anything to herself. She was one of those rare people that you loved the moment you met her. She was so genuine and sincere. Her smile was infectious, it was so beautiful.
Alice was born in Akron, Ohio on October 29, 1939 to Nelson and Elizabeth Turner. Her early school years were at Church School. Her High School years were at Garfield High School where she graduated in 1957.
After high school, Alice worked at Goodyear. She was a dedicated church member. It was at church that she met and later married our dad, Dale Crabtree. After marriage she worked at our Dad's Amoco Service Station where she handled the finances. She raised two daughters, Cheryl and Vicki.
Alice was an avid book reader. She loved to play the piano and she was amazing at it. She would hear a song and go to the piano and play it. We enjoyed learning from her and playing so many duets that she taught us. She enjoyed playing cards and board games. She loved playing ping-pong with our dad. She was really good at it and beat him sometimes. She loved watching football. She loved going fast, whether she was driving or someone else was driving. She enjoyed working at the voting booth. You always knew when she was around because she was always humming.
What she loved the most was her family. She loved watching her grandchildren and going to their events. Until she started getting ill, she was always there.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dale Crabtree. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Elizabeth Turner; her sisters, Nancy Saffles and Patricia Turner; her grandson, Michael Ross; her nieces, Wendy Schlegel and Mary Turner; and her nephew, Bobby Turner.
Alice is survived by daughters, Cheryl Dimengo and Vicki McCrady (Chip); grandchildren, Joshua Dimengo (Lyndsay), Justin Dimengo (Sarah), Tara Dimengo (Mike), Jordan Ross, Kayla McCrady (Josh), Tyler Ross and Gabrielle Nicol (Michael). She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and sister, Janis Rady (Al); her brother, Eddie Turner; and many nieces and nephews.
There are some wonderful people that we would like to mention and thank. First, Chip McCrady, Vicki's husband. He offered their home to be mom's home after dad passed away. He was right there helping mom every step of the way. We are also so grateful for Elara Caring Hospice. We were so blessed for the amazing care and love from Tanya. We love her and we will always keep her in our hearts. Also, we have so much gratitude for Vicki, Mom's Hospice Nurse. We love her, and her wonderful care and love will never be forgotten. This gratitude is also extened to Tracy. She has been with mom and dad along this entire journey. We love her and we will always be thankful for her. Also, thank you to our special friend, Sara, who has also been there with us the entire time. She came over and visited mom and stayed with her when we had to be somewhere else. She is a treasured friend who we love dearly. And we would like to thank our friend, John Jones. John has also been with us the entire way, helping mom and dad so many times. We are very grateful to him for all of his love and kindness.
Alice's service will be at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305) on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 11am with her grandson, Joshua Dimengo presiding. Family and Friends are welcome to visit one hour prior to the service, from 10am until 11am.
Mom, to the world you are our mother, but to your family, you are our world. A mother is someone who can take the place of others but to whose place no one else can take.
We now have an angel watching over us. She is our beautiful Mom.
"We had a wonderful mother
One who never really grew old
Her smile was made of sunshine
And her heart was solid gold
Her eyes were as bright as shining stars
And in her cheeks fair roses you see
We had a wonderful mother
And that is the way it will always be."
