Alfred "Digger" Houpt, 64, entered Heaven on April 8, 2014. He was born in Akron, Ohio on September 1, 1949. Digger proudly served as Sergeant, 25th Infantry, U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. He retired from Ohio Edison in 2004. Digger loved playing golf, fishing, and was a faithful Browns fan. God blessed Digger with a miracle in 2001 when he became a new creation in Christ. He served the Lord at Akron Baptist Temple for many years and completed his service for Christ at Grace Bible Church. I Corinthians 2:9.
Digger was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Houpt and brother, Gerald Houpt. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Valerie Houpt (nee Gaston); father, Alfred Houpt; daughters, Renee (Bill) Wandling, Rene Devenport, and Wendy Myers; sister, Cheryl (Joe) Walker; grandchildren: Courtney, Megan, Jordyn, Dylan, Austin, Tyler, Conner, Noah, and London; great grandchildren: Aiden, Rilynn, Kayla, and Trey; many relatives and friends.
Friends and family may call 3-6 pm, Sunday, April 13, 2014 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, April 14, 2014 at Grace Bible Church, 5781 Manchester Rd, Akron, OH 44319.
