Adolph H. Tokes

August 18, 1926 — May 3, 2017

Adolph H. Tokes, age 90, loving father and grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2017.

He was born on August 18, 1926 to the late Peter and Hermina Cologie Tokes in Adena, Ohio. He married Kathryn Tokes (nee Wilson) on September 27, 1952, and they moved to Akron shortly thereafter.

Adolph was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII. He was a supervisor at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 36 years, retiring in 1988. He was an advisor with Junior Achievement for many years in the 1970's. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church which later became Visitation of Mary Catholic Church.

Proud of his Polish roots, he watched cable's "Mollie B's Polka Party" on Wednesday and Saturday evenings. He enjoyed going to the monthly Ellet Ward meetings with his dear friend, Dick Hamilton, to find out about what was going on in the community, in which he lived for over 60 years. He was a simple man who enjoyed making his yard look nice and was proud to win an award from the City of Akron in 2011. He always looked forward to meeting and talking to everyone who came to his yearly garage sales.

Sharp in mind, he spent an hour each day reading the newspaper. He was up-to-date in current affairs and loved to have a spirited discussion about politics.

He was a sports fan, and was loyal to the Cleveland teams, especially the Indians. His family took him to his first "Tribe" game three years ago. He loved watching Ohio State football and basketball; but his favorite basketball team was Duke University. He and Coach Mike were from the same area in southern Ohio.

Other than his parents, Adolph was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kay, on September 26, 2016; and his brothers, Leonard, Edward, Walter, and an infant brother, Walter.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Stoops and son-in-law, Joseph Stoops; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Julianne Stoops; brothers-in-law, James (Fran) Wilson and Carl Wilson; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Tokes and Linda Tokes; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may gather at Visitation of Mary Catholic Church, 55 Broad Street, Akron, on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, where a funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Newcomer Funeral Home-Akron.
